About the Center of Excellence in Urban Regeneration and Upgrading (CEURU)


The Center of Excellence in Urban Regeneration and Upgrading (CEURU) has been established in cooperation with the University of Kurdistan, Tarbiat Modares, Shahid Beheshti and Allameh Tabatabaei universities in 2019. CEURU aims to expand scientific fields and a comprehensive approach towards regenerating and upgrading urban spaces with a particular emphasis on reducing poverty and empowering urban slums. In line with this goal, the following objectives have been formulated:

  1. Theory-building in the policy-making and the formal approach of the government concerning regeneration and urban upgrading
  2. Developing appropriate methods for the country's main goals concerning poverty reduction, the upgrading and regeneration of dysfunctional urban structures
  3. Capacity building in urban management and planning to improve the urban environment and upgrade the informal settlements and dysfunctional fabric of the city centers
  4. Theory-building and localization of theories associated with the regeneration of urban spaces in line with creation of sustainable, resilient and livable city

CEURU plans to collaborate internationally involving the exchange of new ideas and experiences in urban regeneration and slum upgrading, therefore, individuals, institutions and organizations are requested to send their suggestions to the email below:
